Pleasureland was an amusement park located at the lower level of Ross Park in Pocatello Idaho. The other day I was thinking about the little fun amusement park that was located at Ross park, so I decided to Google it to see if there were any tributes, blogs, or pictures that chronicled this piece of Pocatello history. To my surprise I found very few pictures and even less information. It is almost like it never existed so I dug through articles in the archives of the Idaho State Journal and pieced together the following history of Pleasureland. It is my hope that this can be a place were people who grew up with fond memories of Pleasureland can share there experiences and hopefully some pictures here.
On March 19th 1947 Mr. Adrian Curtis established Pleasureland Amusement Co. Inc. and began to operate Pleasureland amusement park and concession adjacent to Ross park. Rides at the park included a merry-go-round, Spitfire, Chair Plane, Kiddie car, Rocket plane, and miniature train then in 1956 came the addition of the Big Eli Ferris wheel, latter still miniature golf was added. In 1957 Mr. Ed Swisher was appointed manager of pleasureland and managed the park until Mr. Adrian Curtis sold the park in 1969 to Mr. Leo Larsen of Idaho Falls who had been running Funland at Tautphaus Park for 13 years. The park was then operated by Mr. Larsen's daughter. Pleasureland operated until the late 70's or early 80's. In my research, I have not found the exact date of its closure. In the late 1980's after Pleasureland had been closed for quit a few years, Scott Gregersen re-opened Pleasureland. I came across an article from 2008, it stated that Scott Gregersen has saved all of the Pleasureland amusement rides including a ferris wheel, merry-go-round and a 20-passenger train.
