over $750,000 in profits into community projects
Everyone knows that the Long X Bottle Shop (formerly known as the Watford City Community Benefit Association) has always carried the best selection of fine wines, liquor and beer in the Watford City area. This community-owned business is located in the Long X Trading Post, which also houses the Pioneer Museum and a visitor center.
“The Long X Bottle Shop carries the most popular brands of beer, both domestic and imported, as well as liquors and other alcoholic beverages,” states Brenda Fraley, store manager. “We also have a very good selection of wines from North Dakota, as well as a variety of domestic and imported wines.”
The Long X Bottle Shop has added several products that have been requested by newcomers to the Watford City area and will continue to do so as space allows, according to Fraley. This has only enhanced a broad selection of products and provides an opportunity for long-established customers to try something different as well as providing newcomers a taste of home.
According to Fraley, the Long X Bottle Shop can handle the beverage needs for a social gathering at the house, a weekend at the lake or a special private party.
“We can help people with all their beverage needs,” states Fraley. “If we don’t normally stock an item, we can special order it and have it in time for the event.”

What sets the Watford City Community Benefit Association (WCCBA), which owns the Long X Bottle Shop, apart from other area liquor stores is its commitment to use 100 percent of its profits to fund community projects.
“For over 60 years, we have followed our mission statement of using our profits to help build community projects in and around Watford City,” states Neal Shipman, WCCBA president. “There is no other business that does that. Other businesses funnel their profits back into their corporate operations. But we invest ever single dime of profit that we make back into the community.”
And because of that commitment, the WCCBA has been a significant contributor to virtually every major building project in the community, as well as to many organizations.
“We helped build the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in the 1950s,” states Steve Stenehjem, WCCBA secretary-treasurer. “And since then we’ve been financial supporters of the Good Shepherd Home, the Pioneer Museum, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Visitor Center, the McKenzie County Multi-Purpose Building, the McKenzie County Veterans Memorial Building, the Wild West Water Park and the Connie Wold Wellness Center, to name just a few.”
The WCCBA recently made its largest donation ($250,000) for the expansion of the Fox Hills Country Club to expand the golf course to 18 holes.
“When you consider that our prices and selection are the best in the Watford City area, and then realize the tremendous impact that our donations are making to this community, it makes sense that people would choose to stop in and check our selection,” states Fraley.
